Episode 6 is now available on our YouTube channel: SQDtv. Our vlog series will take me, Jeji, all over the country connecting with footballers from all different kinds of backgrounds.
In our sixth episode recorded in mid July I found myself in the middle of Central United States. I first stopped in St. Louis, for a quick lunch and some sightseeing. Of course there was no football to be seen but thankfully the kind workers at The Tin Roof, downtown put a NWSL game on for me. The Gateway Arch was just as impressive in person as it was in pictures. You can tell St. Louis, had a lot going on. Downtown was devoid of life and yet I found public spaces such as restaurants and bars open. It was the opening game of the St. Louis Cardinals, their baseball team which helped attract attention.
Still I couldn't help but feel that people were on edge with all that was going on. I had a chat with one of the local bartenders (not recorded) and she explained to me the divide the protests had caused and why people seemed to be on edge. That and the pandemic must've been hard on a city so rich with culture.
I ended up stopping by The Gateway Arch, for some quick tourist scenes and started to make the four hour drive to Kansas City, MO.
