Player Profiles: Alberto Sosa

We have the pleasure of introducing a new footballer to the SQD family, Alberto Sosa. Alberto, is a professional footballer in the Dominican Republic. We are curious to know more about our new member and how he juggles life and football so we decided to ask him a couple of questions.

Tenemos el placer de presentar a un nuevo futbolista a la familia SQD, Alberto Sosa. Alberto, es un futbolista profesional en República Dominicana. Tenemos curiosidad por saber más sobre nuestro nuevo miembro y cómo hace malabarismos con la vida y el fútbol, ​​así que decidimos hacerle un par de preguntas.

Who are you and what do you do? ¿Quien eres y que haces?

I am Carlos Sosa, a former professional soccer player from the Dominican Republic, currently a free agent, a military officer, an immigration officer and a term student at the technological university of Santiago UTESA. I am part of a youth training project at the football level of a foundation which also has a superior competitive team.

Soy Carlos sosa exjugador de fútbol profesional de la República Dominicana, actualmente agente libre, militar de la armada, oficial migratorio y estudiante de término en la universidad tecnológica de Santiago UTESA. Formo parte de un proyecto de formación de juveniles a nivel futbolístico de una fundación la cual también tiene un equipo superior competitivo.

 

When did you start playing soccer? ¿Cuándo empezaste a jugar al fútbol?

From a very young age with the aim of becoming a professional soccer player and giving a name to the region where I live at a soccer level, being an inspiration for the young people in my sector.

Desde muy pequeño con el objetivo de llegar a ser futbolista profesional y darle nombre a la región donde vivo a nivel futbolístico siendo de inspiración para los jóvenes de mi sector.

 

At what point did you realize that you loved sports? ¿En qué momento te diste cuenta de que amabas el deporte?

Since I touched a beautiful soccer ball and at an early age, I had good conditions to compete.

Desde que toque un bello balón de fútbol y a temprana edad tenía buenas condiciones para competir. 

 

What inspired you to pursue a career in football?¿Qué te inspiró a seguir una carrera en el fútbol?

My desire to continue playing to go further together with the wish of my mother and my deceased father that I would be good with my twin brother.

Mis ganas de seguir jugando para llegar mas allá junto con el deseo de mi madre y mi padre ya fallecido de que me diera bueno junto a mi hermano gemelo. 

 

How long have you been playing soccer? ¿Cuánto tiempo llevas jugando al fútbol?

15 years

15 años. 

 

What is your favorite position? ¿Cual es tu posición favorita?

Containment, steering wheel 5.

Contención, volante 5. 

 

Do you have a favorite team? ¿Tienes un equipo favorito?

Claro, Barcelona FC. 

 

Do you have a favorite player? ¿Tienes un jugador favorito?

Leo Messi. 

 

What was the first soccer move you learned?  ¿Cuál fue el primer movimiento de fútbol que aprendiste?

Hit the ball hard from an early age.

Pegarle fuerte al balón desde temprana edad. 

 

What is your favorite soccer move to perform?  ¿Cuál es tu movimiento de fútbol favorito para realizar?

The bike and cutout for shots.

La bicicleta y recorte para tiros. 

 

Who is your role model in football?  ¿Quién es tu modelo a seguir en el fútbol?

At the local level, my coach and mentor since I was a child, and at an international level, Ronaldo is the phenomenon.

En el local mi entrenador y mentor desde pequeño y a nivel internacional Ronaldo el fenómeno.

 

Who is your role model in life? ¿Quién es tu modelo a seguir en la vida?

My father full of military character and leadership to be able to get where he wanted.

Mi padre lleno de carácter militar y de liderazgo para poder llegar adonde quería. 

 

How popular is soccer in the DR?¿Qué tan popular es el fútbol en RD?

Very advanced, it can be compared with king sports in the country such as baseball and basketball.

Muy avanzado, se puede comparar con deportes rey en el país como el baseball y el bascket.  

 

What is your most memorable moment in football?
(Personal and non-personal moment) ¿Cuál es tu momento más memorable en el fútbol?  (Momento personal y no personal)

I have several but the one I remember the most was a game in the under-17 preselection at the Quisqueya stadium with a view to preparing before the Dominican top team played a friendly against Costa Rica for future tournaments with a goal leaving the central defender sitting and throwing it on foot across the doorman in front of many people. The applause at that moment was what marked me.

Tengo varios pero el que más me acuerdo fue un juego en la preselección sub-17 en el estadio Quisqueya con miras de preparación antes de que jugara la selección superior dominicana un amistoso contra Costa Rica para los torneos futuros con un gol dejando sentado al defensa central y tirándola a pie cruzado al portero delante de muchas personas. La ovación en ese momento fue lo que me marcó a mi. 

 

What else do you do outside of football? ¿Qué más haces fuera del fútbol?

I am a military officer in the Navy and an immigration officer at the airport.

Soy militar de la marina de guerra y oficial migratorio en el aeropuerto.

 

Where do you think your football career will take you in 5 years? ¿A dónde crees que te llevará tu carrera en el fútbol dentro de 5 años?

To be an example for future generations.

A ser un ejemplo para las futuras generaciones. 

 

What would you say to younger children who are trying to get started in soccer?  ¿Qué le dirías a los niños más pequeños que están tratando de iniciarse en el fútbol?

I would speak to you from part of my example that in sports everything is achieved with discipline, dedication and persistence and that if you really dream of it and wish for it in the name of Jesus you will achieve it.

Les hablaría desde parte de mi ejemplo a que en el deporte todo con disciplina, dedicación y persistencia se consigue y que si en realidad lo sueñan y lo desean en el nombre de Jesús lo lograrán.
